THE STORM

Read Matthew 14:22-33. In this Gospel account the disciples of Jesus were in a boat “in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves.” Jesus walks on the water to frightened disciples and stills the storm. Three important lessons shine forth in this context.

First, JESUS ALWAYS COMES IN THE STORM. It had been a great relief to escape from the pressure of the crowd to His place of prayer – but Jesus tore Himself away because His friends needed Him. He is watching you also in the storm and will certainly come to your aid. Remember, cast “all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you” (1 Pt. 5:7). “I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5).

Secondly, JESUS USES THE ELEMENT WE DREAD AS THE PATH FOR HIS APPROACH. The waves were endangering the boat, but Jesus walked on them. In our lives are people and circumstances we dread, but it is through these that the greatest blessing of our lives will come, if we look through them to Christ. “And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good” (Rom. 8:28). “Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Cor. 12:10).

Thirdly, DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF OF JESUS. Peter was walking on the water to Jesus, but when he took his eyes off his Master, and looked at the turmoil around him, he began to sink. Friends we will sink in the seas of difficulty if we take our eyes off of Jesus. Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb. 12:1-2).

Think About It!

Have A Great Day!
